Recycle Your Retired Climbing Rope

If you have a retired climbing rope that you are willing to recycle, please reach out to secondascentropes@gmail.com, and I would love to repurpose it into belts. In exchange, I can offer you a custom belt made out of your rope or others I have on hand, free of charge.

When you reach out, please include a photo of your rope, including the length and width.

My business thrives thanks to those who generously donate their old climbing ropes, giving them a second life in a new form. While these ropes may no longer be safe for climbing, their stories are far from over. By donating your retired rope, it can continue its journey, sharing the spirit of past adventures with others. Whether it’s the rope you trusted on a first ascent or your go-to crag companion, it can now become a unique piece of memorabilia that keeps those memories alive.

Second Ascent Ropes was founded by Carter Watsabaugh, a University of Wyoming student with a deep passion for the outdoors and sustainability. Second Ascent Ropes transforms retired climbing ropes into stylish, eco-conscious belts—each piece capturing the spirit of adventure and the ingenuity of upcycling. Carter’s work not only breathes new life into climbing gear but also sends a clear message about environmental responsibility and innovation.

Through Second Ascent Ropes, Carter invites you to join a movement that celebrates the fusion of adventure, creativity, and sustainability. Every piece is more than just an accessory; it’s a testament to the power of reimagining the old to create something new, meaningful, and enduring.
